Our Mission

Bridging the educational gap between countries and colleagues benefits patients, physicians, and the treatment of spinal disorders across the globe.

Spine Overseas is dedicated to improving patient care and surgical education globally. By partnering with local healthcare providers in developing countries as well as innovative device companies, we can provide contemporary spine care in places where this care currently does not exist. The quality of spine treatment for patients throughout the world can be elevated - one patient at a time.

In 2012, the Spine Overseas team in partnership with Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital performed the very first scolioisis surgery in the history of Belize.

The team has performed almost 40 surgeries in Belize to date. Among them is Ashley, a 16-year old with an infectious giggle and progressing 65 degree curve in her spine due to Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis. Ashely needed immediate surgery and without the Spine Overseas team, she and her mother would have had to raise funds to travel and spend 6+ weeks in Mexico or the United States for her surgery and recovery. In February 2015, she underwent spine surgery in her hometown of Belize City and was able to recover at home, surrounded by her tight knit family and friends.

The work of Spine Overseas would not be possible without the dedication of skilled volunteer staff as well as the generous support of NuVasive Spine Foundation and Life Instruments.

Founded by orthopedic spine surgeons Dr. John Williams and Dr. Jim Youssef, Spine Overseas is now supported by a volunteer team of 16 professionals from the United States and Canada.
